Supporting Business Owners at Every Stage of Their Exit

Welcome to GPHC Investments, a company dedicated to helping business owners successfully exit their businesses, whether through acquisition or strategic exit coaching.

I’m Glenn Preece, founder of GPHC Investments. After decades in business, I established this company with one mission:

Elevating the Exit Game.

I work directly with owners of profitable, well-run businesses who are either looking to sell or want expert guidance to prepare for a future sale. Some are ready to hand over the reins. Others want help increasing business value, reducing risk, and building an owner-independent operation.

MISSION & APPROACH

Whether through acquisition or coaching, my goal is always the same:

To honour the legacy you’ve built and help you transition on your terms.

I work collaboratively with owners to design the best next step, whether that’s structuring a fair deal or developing a practical plan to become exit-ready.

Every business is different. Every owner’s journey is unique. My role is to help you make informed, confident decisions, and elevate the outcome

Are You Thinking About What’s Next?

If you own a profitable, well-established business and are beginning to think about your next chapter, or want to start preparing, I’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you.

Whether your timeline is 6 months or 6 years, it’s never too early to begin the process. Together, we can make sure that when the time comes, your business is ready, and so are you.

From Insurance to Investing in Business Owners

I was born in Hamilton, New Zealand, where life revolved around playing rugby, watching rugby, and supporting our beloved All Blacks (our National Rugby team). I'm sure there was a life outside of rugby, but not if you're a kiwi.

My first real business lessons didn’t come from books, they came from my parents’ family-run motel. From a young age, I was checking in guests, delivering breakfasts, changing beds, even running the payroll. It gave me early exposure to responsibility, and a deep respect for what it takes to run a small business.

Ironically, I rebelled against that entrepreneurial path. At just 16, I joined the State Insurance Office of NZ with no clue what insurance even was. That job turned into a 40-year international career, taking me to London, Singapore, and Sydney. I built high-performing teams, structured complex deals, and helped large corporate businesses manage risk in the power, energy and construction industries.

But my passion always lay outside the corporate world. Investing fascinated me from a young age. For years, I studied markets, attended courses, and built knowledge — but didn’t act. That changed after one seminar line hit me like a freight train:

Where you are financially is where you’ve put yourself.”

It lit a fire under me. I began applying everything I knew, both from insurance and investing, to build a serious portfolio. Over time, that portfolio grew. But something was still missing.

Maybe it was the pull of my parents’ motel. Maybe it was finally realising how much I valued small businesses — the people behind them, the grit it takes, the economic value they generate. Whatever the reason, I knew what I wanted:

To invest in, acquire, and grow small businesses — and help other owners exit well.

Today, through GPHC Investments, I acquire profitable, well-run businesses, and I also coach business owners who want to prepare for their exit, even if they’re not ready to sell. Whether through acquisition or strategic coaching, my mission is simple:

To elevate the exit experience.

But strategy and structure are only part of the journey. Over the years, I’ve come to believe that mindset is everything. Whether you're growing a business, navigating an exit, or reinventing your next chapter, the way you think shapes what’s possible. I incorporate mindset coaching into my work because I've lived the transformation myself, and I know firsthand how powerful a shift in thinking can be.

I now live on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with my wife Linda (an artist and business owner herself). We have two wonderful daughters and one grandchild. When I’m not working with owners or reviewing deals, you’ll find me playing guitar, reading investing books, swimming, or chasing a decent golf swing.

If you're ready to sell, preparing for the future, or just want to talk strategy, I’d love to connect.

Investment Philosophy:

My approach to acquiring businesses is built on one foundational belief:

  • Understanding the owner's goals is just as important as analysing the business itself.

  • Before any numbers are crunched or deals are structured, I take the time to understand:

  • Why the owner is exiting

  • What matters most to them (legacy, team, timing, etc.)

  • Their ideal transition timeline and outcome

Once that clarity is in place, I use a systematic, process-driven approach to evaluating the business, factoring in its assets, historical performance, management team, and future growth potential.

Yes, I care about the numbers. But I never lose sight of the human side of business. Many owners have built something they’re deeply proud of. My job is to honour that legacy, and create a win-win solution.

Professional Abilities:

Rapport Building:  The ability to build genuine rapport has been central to every deal and every relationship I’ve built. It allows me to truly understand the needs of the owner, both practical and emotional, and create an environment of trust, clarity, and collaboration.

Risk Management: My 40-year insurance career taught me how to assess, structure, and mitigate complex risks. That experience now helps me see both red flags and opportunities quickly — and build deal structures that protect all parties involved.

Financial Analysis: I’m deeply experienced in analysing financial statements and identifying value drivers. I know what solid fundamentals look like, and where growth potential can be unlocked — both pre- and post-acquisition.

Operational Expertise: From strategic planning to sales, HR, and cashflow management, I bring operational experience that helps me quickly identify improvement opportunities. Whether I’m investing in a business or coaching an owner, my focus is always on creating sustainable value.

Global Network: Over the years, I’ve built a trusted network of insurance and investment professionals across Australia, NZ, Asia, and beyond. This provides both a sounding board and, when needed, access to capital, sector insight, and deal flow.
